Teacher Training: AMI Primary Course
This course is designed for students of education, curriculum and child development, as well as traditional educators, early childhood educators, parents, caregivers and school administrators. The course is well suited to individuals undertaking a first career or those embarking on a second career.
The students will receive lectures on Montessori philosophy and practice. Further, presentations will be aimed at guiding the students as to how to best present Montessori materials to children from 3 to 6 years of age in the Practical Life, Sensorial, Language and Mathematics areas of the environment. There will be opportunities to participate in discussion groups, as well as time to work hands on with the Montessori materials under the supervision of qualified staff. Students will also have the opportunity to observe children in Montessori classrooms, as well as to practice teach under the supervision of AMI trained people. Materials will be produced by the students which will be used in their own classrooms with children.
Course Calendar
The course is one academic year in length with classes Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Classes run from September through the end of May with two weeks holiday in December and two weeks in March.
Foreign Students
The Foundation for Montessori Education accepts applications from international students. Those who hold a degree from a University outside of Canada, must have their degree assessed by an academic credentials evaluation service, or a recognized Canadian University, and submit the assessment along with their application. Please note that tuition fees are the same for both national and international students.
The course is conducted in English at a university level. Applicants who have English as a second language are responsible for ensuring their language proficiency is at a minimum TOEFL score of 220 computer-based.

• a Bachelor’s Degree or,
• a College Diploma with minimum two year’s work experience

Tuition Fees
The tuition for the academic year 2010-2011 is $9,750 payable as follows:
Tuition Fees: (Canadian Funds)
| $1,300 | non-refundable deposit due upon receipt of a letter of acceptance |
| $4,225 | due on the first day of the first term, thereafter non-refundable |
| $4,225 | due on or before the first day of the second term, thereafter non-refundable |
Compulsory Fees: (Canadian Funds)
| $50.00 | AMI Membership due with first term tuition fees |
| $75.00 | First Aid Course |
| $250.00 | Examination Fees due with second term tuition fees |
NO tuition is required for the second term should a student withdraw or be asked to withdraw before January 1st.
| $500 | minimum should be budgeted for albums, books and materials |
